About the Company 

Over the past several years, Code First Girls has become the largest provider of free coding courses for women and non-binary individuals. Having trained 65,000+ women in technology education means that we have taught more women to code than the entire UK university undergraduate system!

Our mission is to give more women the opportunity to learn new skills and pursue great careers in tech with our company partners. 

Location: Code First Girls offer family-friendly, flexible working arrangements. We are sourcing office space in London this year and so some time in the office will be required and can be discussed in more detail at the interview stage.

What we’re offering

You will be helping to shape our classroom, CFGdegree and +Masters programmes, focused on delivering a great teaching and education experience to make sure our students gain the skills and confidence to work in tech.

All learning materials are provided however we want instructors to roll up their sleeves and get stuck in so there will also be the opportunity to review existing content based on instructor and student feedback and also to develop new curriculum content as our portfolio continues to expand.

What we’re looking for

We look for a variety of technical skills in our teaching team, therefore will be open to considering candidates who have all-round tech skills, but also those with strengths in a particular area. 


General Requirements 

  • A UK/IE based developer with 2+ years experience in a professional setting
  • Engaging communicator who loves to pass on knowledge and see students thrive
  • Empathetic and aware of different students needs and willing to adapt the lesson to ensure all students can keep up
  • Ability to work with a group of instructors playing to the strengths of the team
  • Must have a passion for teaching and mentoring
  • Strong Python skills (experience writing production code, knowledge of APIs)
  • Good  SQL skills (ability to work with databases  and write queries to access data)
  • Understanding of a product development lifecycle
  • Comfortable troubleshooting installation and software issues on both Windows and Mac machines
  • Experience deploying the code to production 
  • * Advanced Python skills OR Data analytics experience/understanding  (Pandas, NumPy, etc. packages ) OR Web Development (JavaScript, React, TypeScript) 

* Depending on your experience and skills set you will have the opportunities to teach our ‘intro to’ classes in Data & SQL, Python & Apps and Web Dev, as well as our CFGdegree in software, data and fullstack and masters in DevOps & Cloud, Business Analysis and Product and Mobile Apps.

‘Good to have’ requirements

  • Understanding of basic statistics techniques
  • Understanding of basic programming algorithms
  • Understanding of UI/UX Design, and interface planning via wire-framing and blueprint design
  • Previous teaching experience (e.g. CFG courses)
  • Previous mentoring experience  
  • Previous experience delivering workshops

Roles and responsibilities

As the instructor, you’ll be responsible for ensuring that the students develop the knowledge, practical skills and confidence to take what they have learned into their first professional role in tech. To do this, you will need to:

  • Prepare for each lesson
  • Deliver our structured curriculum through virtual classroom training
  • Provide feedback to students on the outcomes of tasks and exercises to ensure they’re learning from errors
  • Adapt to the learning styles of students to ensure that no one is left behind
  • Support students to build their confidence in their own ability 
  • Provide support to students as they create their portfolio pieces that demonstrate understanding of the knowledge and skills they are learning
  • Lead mock interviews with students and other ad hoc confidence coaching
  • Where required build a continued learning plan for students based on where they have excelled and have room to improve 
  • Be available outside of lesson times to help students with their homework queries and to answer any questions
  • Run 1-1 sessions with students where it’s included in the programme 
  • Review existing content through a change management process based on instructor and student feedback 

All classes will occur Monday-Friday, we have both full-time and part-time opportunities available so please let us know at the interview stage your preference. Classes are run during the day and in the evenings,  we will ask what your preferred work pattern is during the interview stage.
